CHANGE OF VENUE
THE NYPD HAS REVOKED ALL PERMITS FOR THE LEFRAK:TELFAR WHITECASTLE PARTY.
For the last six months we have been planning a party at the White Castle by Telfar’s apartment in Lefrak City, Queens.

We wanted to play Telfar’s daily bike commute in reverse — and have the art and fashion world come out to where he lives.

We wanted to speak to a longer journey too: from Liberia, to Lefrak, to being a finalist in the Vogue/CFDA fashion fund; from White Castle customer to designing their nationwide uniforms. A true story and one that means something to us.

To tell it, we made the LEFRAK capsule collection — from which White Castle is donating 100% of its proceeds to the Robert F Kennedy Human Rights — Liberty and Justice fund to bail minors off of Rikers Island.

The planning for this event was long and thorough. This Thursday afternoon the Telfar team visited the local precinct for a routine meeting to drop off a $75 dollar check for our sound permit.
Instead of a single clerk, we were met with 15 members of the NYPD — including the borough commander, precinct captain, and officers from drug enforcement, gang intelligence, social media, anti-terrorism and the ‘hip hop unit’. NYPD legal counsel was present via conference call.

Print outs from our instagram account and our e-vites were laid out on the table.

Our producers were not invited to speak but were informed that all our permits have been revoked.

The reasons given seemed to contradict the prior approval of our TPA. They cited safety, traffic, risk of violence, the events in Las Vegas and our surprise performer’s alleged gang associations. We offered to increase security by 100 guards to cancel our surprise performer, to cancel all performances, to cancel all liquor, to move the event by several months to allow them to prepare.

They said our event could not take place at any time under any circumstances.

Theres no point for speculation and no need for conspiracy. We know the story. it’s not the story we wanted to tell — but it’s the truth and there’s power in it.

Please come celebrate what’s worth celebrating this Sunday. TELFAR has teamed up with Lyft - use code TELFARLEFRAK to get $5 off your first two rides or by clicking HERE. Valid for new users only.

CELEBRATE URGENTLY.

Our commitment to this cause is doubled — we plan to expand the LEFRAK collection to six more cities in the coming months!

Please come and pick up your piece of it — or give directly to LIBERTYANDJUSTICE.NYC or starting Monday purchase the collection at SHOP.TELFAR.NET

Yours,
